Youth
active participation in democratic processes can provide a
stimulus for solving people’s problems, said Barrister Muhammad
Ali Saif, deputy chairman of the National Volunteer Movement
while speaking as chief guest at the show case ceremony of
Project Citizen Pakistan for Youth, arranged by the Centre for
Civic Education Pakistan (CCEP) at Muhammad Ali Jinnah
University.
Appreciating the efforts and work of the Centre for Civic
Education for educating the young for active citizenship,
Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said youth is the present and future
of the nation. Our youth has an added responsibility of carrying
the burden of history and of mistakes made by the previous
generations. “You should get organize, institutionalize your
potential and work for solving problems of the people so that
this burden does not pass on to the next generation,” he added.
He said Project Citizen Pakistan is a step in this direction.
The NVM deputy chief said civic education is vital for
strengthening democratic institutions and development of the
society. He said participation of youth in civic and political
activities would channelise their energies for bring positive
and peaceful change in the society. He offered to work in
collaboration with the CCEP for organizing and training the
youth.
Dr. Syed Tahir Hijazi, Dean Faculty of Business
Administration and Social Science, said that Pakistan has lot of
potential to attract tourists provided we improve our civic
structures.
Zafarullah Khan, executive director CCEP,
said the out of school young people
and their associations have worked to understand and highlight
problems of their communities. He said the rule of law and civic
participation can change the fate of Pakistan. |
